Sophomore Blake DeVries picked up his first career NSIC Pitcher of the Week awardBlake DeVries continued his excellence on the mound for the fifth straight start, pitching a complete game win in a close 3-1 victory over 18th ranked nationally and 2nd-ranked regionally Wayne State on Sunday morning at the Metrodome. In that start, DeVries struck three of the first six batters, retiring the Wildcats in order in the first two innings. He went on to scatter just five hits and one walk as he won his fourth straight start in his fifth consecutive quality start (at least six innings with three earned runs or less). In Northern Sun play this year, DeVries is 4-1 with a 1.69 ERA in five starts, winning his last four. He has pitched 32 innings allowing opponents to hit just .195 with 29 strikeouts. He is now 4-3 after an 0-3 start, and has lowered his ERA from 15.00 after two starts down to 4.61. In two games as a DH last week, DeVries was 4-6 with a home run, three RBI and a double. Concordia is 8-1 when DeVries is the DH.

It is his first NSIC Pitcher of the Week award, the fourth of the season for the team (Jake Schmidt-3) and the fifth overall NSIC weekly honor (Joe Abellera, Player of the Week).
