PAUL, Minn. - The Northern Sun Champion Concordia women's golf team received high honors as head coach Matt Higgins was named the NSIC Women's Golf Coach of the Year for the second time in his career while three of his players were selected to the 10 individual All-NSIC Women's Golf Team. Seniors Jacquelyn Hauser (Caledonia, Minn.) and Carley Paulseth (Moose Lake, Minn.) along with sophomore Molly Noser (Rochester, Minn.) were CU's all-conference honorees. NSIC RELEASE
Higgins earns NSIC Women's Golf Coach of the Year for the second time in his seven year career. He has coached three NCAA Individual qualifiers and last won the award in 2004. But it's his 2008-09 squad that is taking the program to new heights as he has led the team to a NCAA Regional Tournament appearance for the first time.
Hauser is a three-time NSIC All-Academic selection and is now a three-time All-NSIC performer on the course as well. In 2007-08, Hauser was an NCAA Individual qualifer. This year, she has averaged an 80.2 on the season and has five top-5 finishes in nine events this season. She has finished in the top-10 seven times and has only missed the top-20 once. She produced a team low score three times this season including taking medalist honors at the Maverick Invitational with a 151 including her season low of 75. Hauser tied for sixth in the NSIC Championships to earn the All-NSIC honors. Hauser has played in 87 rounds with CU and is a career 82.9 performer.
After earning the most prestigious student-athlete award on campus when she was named a Top Four honoree at Put Me In Coach, V this year. She followed that up by producing on the links, tying for sixth with Hauser in the NSIC Championships. In the fall, she was tied for the lead in the NSIC Championship race as an individual by shooting 77-80=157 after the first 36 holes were complete. On the season, Pauleth averaged an 82.8 with three top-10 finishes and seven times placing in the top-20. She has improved her stroke average dramatically every year as a Golden Bear, going from a mid-90's golfer as a freshman cutting 13 strokes off her pace in four seasons. She cut her average down four strokes from a year ago. Paulseth was an All-NSIC Second Team golfer a year ago.
Noser came on strong down the stretch and her third round 73 in the NSIC Championships helped her tie for third in the league in her second top-5 finish of the season. Noser played 82.0 golf in 2008-09, improving by over two and a half strokes over her impressive freshman seasson. Out of nine performances this season, Noser placed in the top-10 six times and in the top-20 eight times. The 2007-08 NSIC Freshman of the Year is a second time All-NSIC performer as she was named to the Second Team in 2007-08.
The three All-NSIC golfers will try to lead a dynamic five golfer lineup into the NCAA Tournament next week.
