ABERDEEN, S.D. - Concordia University's John Pimental (Jr., Ripon, Wis.) set a school record with 6,061 points to take third place at the 2009 NSIC Outdoor Multi-Events. Pimental had two strong days, setting new personal best marks in every event on day 1 and finishing only 25 points shy of second place during day 2. Pimental's finish gives the Golden Bear men's team six points toward the NSIC Championship meet, which will be held May 8-9. MEN'S NSIC MULTIS STANDINGS - COMPLETE RESULTS
Pimental went into the final event of the multis ranked first place overall, but looked ahead to an event in which he had never before competed, the 1,500m run. Not a distance runner, Pimental ran his best in the event and still finished in third place overall. He was just 25 points, or mere seconds in the race, out of second place behind UMD's Chris Parno.
Pimental set new personal best marks in all five events during the first day of action at the NSIC Multi-Events, sliding in comfortably at second place in the men's standings. Pimental was just 49 points behind the NSIC leader Zac Preble and nearly 300 points ahead of third place.
Among Pimental's accomplishments on the day was a first place finish and new school record in the long jump, going 23 feet, 3.25 inches on his attempt. Pimental also won the 100m dash (10.98s). He competed in some of his top events during the first day of action, and will need a solid finish tomorrow to maintain his standing in the meet.
Bemidji State's Zac Preble won the 2009 Multi-Event title with 6,223 points.
Andy Chaussee was Concordia's other entrant in the NSIC Championship event. Chausee finished in 15th place at the meet but competed well, setting a new personal record in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 9.75 inches during day 1.
