Palkert Named Minneapolis College Athlete of the Year

Apr. 20MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - In a media market that is home to the Division I University of Minnesota along with multiple Division III Universities, the college athlete that stands above them all is Concordia's own Emily Palkert, as she was named the Twin Cities College Athlete of the Year by the City Pages. The four time All-American Middle Hitter, who helped Concordia win 75 straight matches and four consecutive NCAA Volleyball National Championships, has earned the right to be named the best college athlete in the twin cities. PalkertPalkert finished her career as the school's all time leader in kills and points in a single career. She was named the NCAA's National Freshman of the Year by the AVCA in 2007 as her immediate impact was felt including a match against rival Minnesota Duluth where she had 34 kills, a school record. She was an All-American her next three years as well as she continued to dominate the nation winning conference and national player of the week awards along the way.

Not only was Palkert a dominate force racking up kills upon kills every match but she was accurate as well finishing her career hitting .327, third best in school history. She was also a monster on the defensive side of the ball finishing her career third in school history in total blocks (482) and second in school history in solo blocks (94).
