Golfers Secure CU Athlete of the Week Honors

Apr. 06

ST. PAUL, Minn. - For the first time in the spring part of the golf season the Concordia athletic department has named golfers as Athletes of the Week with sophomore Alex Timm (Hopkins, Minn.) and junior Anne Martin (Ramsey, Minn.) earning the honors. Each golfer earns the honor for the first time.

Alex Timm

Alex Timm led Concordia for the second straight week and has emerged as a top male golfer in the region, finishing fifth out of 72 golfers at the Upper Iowa Spring Invite. The fifth place finish, while impressive in a crowded field, was the highest ever finish by Timm. In his sophomore season, Timm has improved his average by nearly two strokes per 18 holes over his freshman year. He is averaging a 77.3 this year, down from 79.2 last year. During six rounds of spring action, he has posted scores of 77, 75, 76, 72, 75 and 81 in tough playing conditions for a 76.0 average and has three top-10 performances at three invites.

Anne Martin

Anne Martin has started her Concordia career off with two excellent performances, tying for fourth in her debut at the Northern Sun Spring Fling two weeks ago before last weekend's third place finish at the Upper Iowa Spring Classic. In difficult conditions, Martin is playing +9 golf in four rounds with a 81.3 stroke average. She has led the Golden Bears in each of their two events this spring and the team has finished second each performance. Martin came to Concordia from the University of Minnesota and has made an immediate impact.
