WAYNE, Neb. - Paced by the strong play of sophomore Nick Jarrett (Woodbury, Minn.), the Golden Bear men's golf team showed a seven stroke improvement on day two of the Wayne State Spring Invite to finish in fifth of seven teams at Wayne Country Club. RESULTS
Jarrett was one under par today, shooting a 71 to finish 78-71=149, just one stroke out of second and three strokes from medalist honors. It's the second time this year Jarrett shot a 71 in a round, equaling his mark at the RMAC Fall Invite on Sept. 23.
As a team, CU finished three strokes out of fourth place (Morningside) and seven strokes out of third (Wayne State-B). Their 308 second day score was the fifth best score they have produced in a round in 2008-09.
Sophomore Alex Timm (Hopkins, Minn.) tied for eighth place in the 44 individual field by shooting a 77-75=152. It was the second best performance of the season for Timm, who opened the year with a 150. The eighth place finish was his best finish of the season.
Freshman Aron Duren (Scandia, Minn.) fired a 75 today, his lowest round in his young career, beating out the 79 he shot in his first career round at the Augustana Fall Invite on Sept. 7.
Senior Matt Alford (Orono, Minn.) shot the second best round of the season when he posted a 74 on day two to tie for 18th in the field, his second highest placing this year.
The Golden Bears resume their spring season this weekend at the Moila CC Invitational in St. Joseph, Mo.
