School Records Fall at Day Two of NSIC Championships

Mar. 01– Three school records fell and three NSIC champions were crowned from Concordia at the second day of the NSIC Indoor Championships in Bemidji.  The Golden Bears had five athletes earn all-NSIC honors in seven events on the day.

Kawaskii Bacon (Jr., Minneapolis, MN) won the 55m and 200m dashes in earning all-NSIC and 20 total points for the Golden Bears.  His time of 22.05 in the 200m dash bettered his NCAA provisional time from earlier this season (22.11).

Sophomore Katie Johnson (Ramsey, MN) earned all-NSIC honors in the triple jump with a school record and NCAA provisional leap of 38-0 3/4.  She also finished third in the 400m dash in a time of 58.57 and sixth in the 200m dash in a time of 26.30.  On the weekend, Johnson earned 21 points for the Golden Bears and earned all-NSIC in three of four events.

Tre Sayles (Jr., Woodbury, MN) broke his own school record and posted an NCAA provisional mark in finishing second in the triple jump covering 47-0 1/4, bettering his previous mark by more than a foot (45-9).  He earned all-NSIC honors and eight points for Concordia.

Junior Matt Eicheldinger (Montrose, CO) earned all-NSIC honors in winning the 800m dash in a time of 1:57.94 and junior Jayme Anderson (Deer Park, WI) earned honorable-mention all-NSIC with a third place finish in the pole vault, clearing 10-7.

Overall, the Golden Bear men finished in fifth with 75.5 points, while the women were seventh with 31 points.  The University of Mary won the NSIC team title for both the men (127 pts) and women (177pts).
