ST. PAUL, Minn. - Concordia University track & field coach Jarred Sampson is pleased to announce the signing of three athletes to National Letters of Intent. Sara Skyberg, Samantha Genung and Brittany Dohmen will join the Golden Bear women's track & field team next fall. Skyberg and Genung will also step on as members of the Concordia soccer squad.
"We look forward to welcoming Brittany Dohmen, Samantha Genung and Sara Skyberg to the Golden Bear track & field team," said Sampson. "Our women's team continues to grow in the sprinting and jumping events with their addition."
"These three are all great student-athletes that have competed at a high level in high school and will be able to make an immediate impact on the team. They will add to the depth of our team in the individual events as well as the sprint relays."
Sara Skyberg will come to Concordia from Esko, Minn., where she will graduate this spring from Esko High School. Skyberg is a five-time track letterwinner who has received an All-Conference nod every season since seventh grade. She has been an Academic All-State athlete for three years, with her senior season remaining. At 5-9, Skyberg is known for her high jumping abilities, clearing 5' 4" in 2007 on her way to a 6th place finish in the event at the State meet. She took 10th place in the high jump in 2006. Skyberg cleared the 7-foot mark as a pole vaulter and ran a personal best 29 seconds in the 200m dash. Skyberg is also a four-time soccer letterwinner for the Eskimo, serving as her team's second-leading scorer the past two seasons. She is the daughter of Kevin Skyberg and Diane Gustafson.
Samantha Genung, a 5-6 long jumper, is a native of Lindstrong, Minn. and is set to graduate from Chisago Lakes High School. Genung has combined for seven letters in track & field, soccer and academics. She has been named All-Conference Honorable Mention for her efforts in both track & field and soccer, and is also an Academic All-Conference athlete. She is the daughter of Kim Hofmann and Darren Genung.
Brittany Dohmen, the daughter of Luke and Donna Dohmen, is from Rogers, Minn. and is a four-time track letterwinner for Rogers High School. Dohmen, 5-6, has made the 400 meter dash her event of excellence. She was named All-Conference last season as a member of the 4x400 meter relay team. Dohmen has lettered academically every year of her high school campaign and is also a four-time Academic All-Conference honoree. She plans to major in pre-physical therapy at Concordia.
