ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia University athletic department has selected Craig Heiman (Basketball) and Jamie Lindboe (Softball) as this week's CU Athletes of the Week. Heiman earns the honor for the sixth time during the 2008-09 athletic year and the first time since January 5.
Craig Heiman (F, 6-5, 230, Jr., Marshall, Wis. / Marshall HS) pounded in a season-high 29 points while collecting a game-high nine rebounds to lead Concordia to a 99-92 overtime victory on the road at MSU Moorhead on Saturday. He played 44 out of a possible 45 minutes for CU and his free throw shooting was key in securing the victory as one of the top free throw shooters in the league buried 12 of his 13 trips to the foul line. He has now topped the 20 point plateau in three consecutive games, seven times on the season and has only failed to score at least 15 points six times in 25 games. With 1,236 career points, Heiman is sixth on CU’s all-time scoring list. With 837 career points in league games, Heiman moved from 25th to 17th on the NSIC Career Scoring List with his 29 point effort, most recently surpassing Winona State’s Jonte Flowers (04-08) and SMSU’s Chad Koenen (98-02). With two league games remaining, he is within 45 points of climbing all the way to 11th (Tim Wahl, Mankato State, 78-81).
Jamie Lindboe (OF, 5-6, Fr., Eagan, Minn. / Burnsville HS) had an outstanding weekend for the Golden Bears at the RMAC/NSIC Crossover, batting .588 with 10 hits in 17 at-bats. 5 of her 10 hits went for extra bases, with 3 triples, a double and a homer knocked out through play. The freshman was instrumental in Concordia’s wins (3), going 7-of-8 at the plate (.875) with three triples, five RBI and five runs scored. Overall, Lindboe marked a 1.176 slugging percentage and completed play with a team high 8 RBI and 7 runs scored. The outfielder was also perfect in protecting the left side of the grass, putting out 15 batters and marking 4 assists without an error. Lindboe has an eight-game hitting streak going on the year and is batting a team high .500 (13-26).
