ST. PAUL, Minn. - Last Friday, February 13, the Concordia University, St. Paul Board of Regents unanimously approved Phase I of the stadium project with a budget of 8-14 million dollars clearing the way for construction of Sea Foam Stadium to commence in the coming weeks.
"This was a big step in moving our student-athlete programs forward," said Dr. Eric LaMott, Vice President of Operations at the University.
Concordia Athletic Director Tom Rubbelke added, "We are so excited for the future of the campus, having our own facility to call home for football, track & field and soccer. But it doesn't stop there, the entire athletic department is excited for the opportunities that Sea Foam Stadium will bring to the University."
With the demolition of existing buildings on the stadium site occurring in the next few weeks, a WebCam will provide up-to-date still pictures of the progress.
On homecoming, September 27, 2008, Mr. Phil Fandrei's gracious donation of five million dollars on behalf of Sea Foam Sales, Co. paved the way for the stadium project to be put on the fast track. Not only did the generous donation provide the funds necessary to show that the stadium initiative was for real, it provided the excitement and enthusiasm to mobilize the support of the campus to get behind the project.
Sea Foam Stadium will be located on the southwest corner of Concordia Ave. and Hamline Ave. adjacent to the Fandrei Center, which is the home for roughly half of Concordia's athletic offices, football locker room and a training room as well as the University's Conference & Events department. The stadium will include an eight lane track and will be equipped with all necessary field facilities. The stadium will also be equipped with the footings for an inflatable bubble to be used during the winter months.
