Feb. 16

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Spring season has officially arrived for Concordia athletics as Chris Herbert (Baseball) and Calli Brennan (Softball) were named the CU Athletes of the Week.

Chris Herbert (C, 6-3, 220, Sr., R-R, White Bear Lake, Minn. / White Bear Lake HS) belted a pair of home runs going 3-4 while driving in five runs in an 8-4 win over Minnesota Duluth last Tuesday at the Metrodome. The reigning All-NSIC First Team backstop’s run producing was vital in the victory, as his two home runs put Concordia ahead 3-1 after his first two at bats. In the bottom of the sixth with CU leading 5-2, Herbert provided insurance as he powered a bases loaded two run single up the middle and would come around to score later in the inning in a three run inning that helped solidify Concordia’s fifth straight win to start the season. In game two of the twin bill, Herbert was hit by pitch and scored in the first inning to give CU a quick lead in what was eventually their first loss of the season, 9-1. On the week, Herbert hit .500 (3-6) with four runs, five RBI and two home runs. He slugged 1.500 with a .571 on pase pct., a remarkable 2.071 OPS.
