Sammy Ricks and Candace Olstad Named CU Athletes of the Week

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Concordia athletic department has selected Sammy Ricks and Candace Olstad as the CU Athletes of the Week. Both players had successful weekends on the hardwood, Ricks earning the honor for the second time this year while C.Olstad earns her third AOW nod.

Sammy Ricks scored 19 points against Northern State

Sammy Ricks (G, 5-11, 170, Jr., St. Paul, Minn. / Johnson HS / NDSCS) averaged 16.0 points while shooting an impressive 61.1% (11-18) from the floor in leading Concordia to a pair of NSIC wins last weekend. Ricks scored 19 points on 6-8 shooting while hitting all six free throws in a 78-74 win over #16 Northern State. The next night, Ricks added 13 points in a balanced scoring win for Concordia while pulling down six rebounds against the Marauders. For the week, the league’s leader in steals added five more to his total. He made two of his four three-pointers and delivered all eight of his free throws. He dished out three assists each night and had a 2-1 assist-turnover ratio.

Candace Olstad had 18 points against U-Mary

Candace Olstad (F, 6-0, Sr., Elgin, Minn. / Elgin-Millville HS) averaged 17.5 points per game while shooting 50% from the field for the Golden Bears last weekend.  Olstad had 17 and 18 point games and averaged 7.0 rebounds per game against Northern State and the University of Mary.  She was 11-of-22 from the field and also had two blocked shots on the weekend.  She played 29.5 minutes per contest.
