MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Concordia University track & field team saw its first NCAA provisional mark of the season posted this afternoon when Domonique Gilmer blew away the school's record in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.86 seconds. Gilmer won the event at the Minnesota Open (U of M), finishing ahead of all other athletes, including University of Minnesota sprinters. The combined men's and women's squads set 24 new personal records at the meet.
Gilmer's (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn. / Iowa Central CC) time not only shatters the former CU best time of 49.22s, but also gives him great positioning in the nation's top performance lists. According to results reported at the time of posting, Gilmer's time is the second best in the nation this season, just shades off of Steve Banton's (Lincoln) best time of 48.40 (converted time). A provisional mark qualifies an athlete for the NCAA Championships in mid-March, where the top marks are chosen to fill a field. Gilmer still has plenty of opportunities to reach the automatic-qualifying time of 48.30s and be guaranteed a spot in the final meet.
The Golden Bears had other standout performances at the meet this afternoon, including a new school record set by Kaysee Nesmoe (Jr., Mountain Lake, Minn.) in the shot put. Nesmoe bested her own record-holding mark in the event with a throw of 41 feet, 5.25 inches, good for third place at the meet. The junior holds both of Concordia's indoor throwing records.
Concordia won two jumping events at the meet, one on the men's side and one on the women's. Diahn Zeon (So., Edina, Minn.) went 22 feet, 11.75 inches in the long jump to take the prize, while Sarah Perryman (Sr., Jordan, Minn.) won the triple jump with 36 feet, 5 inches.
Another very strong performance was put forth by the men's 4x400 relay team. Their time of 3:22.50 was just two seconds off of the school record in the event. Gilmer opened the relay, followed by Anthony Bos (Fr., Freedom, Wis.), Brian Kohlman (Jr., Kiel, Wis.) and the trail brought in by Jordan Haroldson (Fr., Kiester, Minn.).
